There is a story behind why this song gives me hope and tears, but you really have to know me to know that story. I will that this moment say that decision changed my life forever. So, here I am now, drinking whiskey.
The best thing that happened to me when I was 19 was I got to meet Elliott Smith. Granddaddy opened, they had just released The Sophtware Slump. (Still a fucking amazing album) That night I had my first whiskey, Elliott gave me at the end, along with a beer. I took the set list, a poster from the venue, and I stole his astray. This man had started saving my life when I was 15 and has never stopped. It’s hard to believe that it’s been eight years since he died. Tonight I’ll have a little whiskey and listen to a little Elliott. R.I.P. Elliott, thank you for everything.

I hung my ankles out the window and tapped them to the music on the side view window. My arm was swirling through the air as we caught speed on LSD(Lake Shore Drive). They started out small and as we drive north the fireworks covered the sky. “You’ll be beautiful confusion/I saw you caught between all the people out making the scene/ohhh don’t go too far, stay who you are” he sang as he grazed my hand with his and we watched the smoke spiders fill our eyes. “It’s gonna happen soon, but not today.” I sang as I traced the contrail like smoke filled sky. He never did kiss me that night. We never had a photograph together and I haven’t seen him since.
